Considering all the problems Ford has had recently this does not surprise me. They are a dying company, and this is just another nail in the coffin.
Maybe the next owners who buy them out of recievership will care about making a world class product, instead of spending profits on higher pay for incompotent management. Anyone should be a better owner than the Ford family.

Since Ford went public in 1956, the common man owns more of Ford than the family does.
Memories are short..especially to the current greedy, self serving management of Navistar. Why? Because, if it wasn't for Ford, there would be no Navistar..PERIOD!!
International Harvester (IHC) went broke in the late 1970's. When no one would help, not the shareholders, not the US Government, not GM...no one, Ford stepped up.
Ford signed a long term contract with IHC which gave Ford the International 6.9 diesel engines for use in E and F250/350's. That saved IHC's butt...pure and simple. Emerging from bankrupcy, IHC became Navistar.

The engineer that I work for got to talk to a gent from Navistar at a diesel engine conference a few weeks ago. The gent sure tlaked alot about the riff with Ford.
Seems like Ford really did not like the way Navistar handled complaints and problems from the field. This gent said the orginal design was robust enough but there were alot of problems with the fuel injection components from supplier Siemmens. Ford and Navistar sent engineers to Siemmens to help in the solving of machining problems with the injectors. Then the supplier for the fuel pressure regulators was having problems and they had to chase that as well.
Navistar had some problems with block castings and some assembly line problems, but did not fix these as quickly as Ford and everyone else wanted.
Of course that led to charges that FORD was spending money to fix a Navistar problem. Navistar had been against some of FORD's suggestions for the fuel system. Supposedly the new 6.4l has the fuel system Ford engineering wanted for the 6.0l. So it goes, and now it is for the lawyers to hammer out.
