088 ATS Turbo question

Hey everyone,

I have been reading a lot of your post and finding a lot of good information. I had to replace the fuel return lines and o-rings on the injectors, truck runs great now.

But I still have one little problem. I have a 1990 F-250 with the 7.3 liter diesel, manual trans. The original owner installed a 088 non waist gated ATS turbo. According to the tech support guys at ATS, this has not been made in over 10 years. Tech support solution was to buy a new turbo….nice guy.

The problem I’m having is the vent hose from the driver side valve cover to I think it’s the CDR has broken in half and leaks oil which over time has made a mess of the back side of the engine. What I was wondering without pulling the valve cover, does anyone know how this is attached and do they know if I can find a replacement or how to make something work. Here is the link to the picture of the turbo what I need is item #14.

https://www.atsdiesel.com/PDF/6.9-7.3-088-Ford-Turbo-System-Layout-sm-A4.pdf

I also have a stupid question, does anyone know what this truck is rated for towing.

Thanks for any help…

Mine broke also. So I made a road draft tube. It is a grommet in the valve cover. Just pull, it will come out. I vented that valve cover with a hose down by the axle. Then took off the cdr andmade a block-off plate for the hole. Usees a lot less oil now and has less leaks.

Tomorrow I can take some pictures of mine for ya.

If you think getting that part from ATS is hard, try getting the crossover pipe for that kit from them!

This info would be close for your truck......with a turbo you could do better.
This is right from the Ford Recreational vehicle and trailer towing guide 1992-3....

if its the black hose that goes from the vavle cover to the cdr valve mounted to the air cleaner box, it is in there with a flange fit right on the end of the hose and should pull right out. There was an update to that with ATS making a mount right on the valve cover for the cdr valve. You might be able to find someone to weld a nipple to the valve cover for you and get a heater hose to replace the hose thats broken. Its there to burn the crankcase gasses. Or make yourself a road tube.

mine broke a couple of weeks ago and all I did was got a larg peice of heat shrink and wraped it add a little heat and it leaks no more.heck just the natural heat of the surounding area will probley shrink the tubeing.while your in there remove the cdr and blow the hell out of it with some chem clean or break cleaner couse if that thing gets full of crud and cant flow the gasses will build up in the crank case and sifein the oil right back out the filler neck and make a hug mess of you engine.it took me for ever to clean the oil off my motor.
