F-150 moan

A buddy at work has a 2000 F-150 4.6L SOHC. It has headers and a K&N FIPK. Sometimes when he lets off the throttle, the engine will moan at idle. As soon as he hits the gas, it stops.

He said his Ranger used to do the same thing.

Anyone ever experienced this?

Yes, Tom, many times. When the moaning gets too loud or annoying, I have found a gentle but Firm slap on the REAR-END to be quite effective.

He is hearing the air go thru the IAC. He might try to clean it but usually it doesn't help. Sure cure is to get rid of the K&N.

I have never head that before. How does the K&N cause this? I have had a K&N on many other vehicles and I have never head that sound before. We have a 1993 Aerostar, 1993 Thunderbird, 1991 Tracer 1.9l, 1992 Escort GT 1.8l, 1998 Grand Am GT, and a 2002 Sport Trac...and all of them have a K&N.

His old Ranger 4.0l did the same thing.

On the K&N FIPK the istructions tell you to remove the little black box by the IAC and put the piece of hose there. I just put the box back on and it fixed it. Try it and let me know.
