Never heard of a 35-spline Ford 9". Maybe it's an aftermarket item. From the factory, they either came with 28 or 31 splines. Most trucks had 31, most cars had 28.

Don't have a Bronco parts book, as they were in the car parts books till 1980, but there's no 35 spline axle shafts listed for F100/150's, and the F Series and 1978/79 Bronco's were basically the same.

First year that Ford offered a 31 spline 9" rear axle for a truck was 1968. It was an option on all F100's and prolly used in the F100 390 Camper Specials as standard equipment.

35 spline is aftermarket and makes for a practicly bullet proof setup. if you can fork over the doe go for it. this would be if you plan on running a tire larger then 36"

Like kemicalburns said, 35 spline shafts are aftermarket.
ALL 78 79 Broncos came with 31 spline ford 9"s.
I want to say all 66-77 Broncos came with 28 splines.
The 35 spline will hold up to alot more power and abuse, but isn't really needed unless you plan on using a big tire and do burn outs or go on rocks.

haha

Ya big tires and burn outs on rocks.. i dont know if i will be doing that but if its just ordering axle shafts in addition to the locker i would upgrade.. depending on how much extra.. cause the lockers are the same price for the detroit anyhow.

rwjr is starting off with a positive reputation.
I think the 35 spline differentials require 3.25 carrier bearings, which will require an aftermarket carrier to the tune of at least $230 for the cheap one.
