I guess my fuel pump needs replacing. I am running about 25 pounds of pressure. When I give it gas it drops in pressure. My question is is there a after market fuel pump? Does someone like holley or eldlebrock make a in tank fuel pump. Are they higher volume? Does a high volume realy help or is it just a waste of money.
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 11-Oct-02 AT 10:19 PM (EST)]I swear by my Carter 72Gph electric pump.Feeds my 472Ci with no problem.Yes,High volume pumps are worth while.
Sounds like your running just a few more horse power then i am Does anyone out there use a higher volume fuel pump for stock motors such as a 96 351? I need to replace my in tank fuel pump so I thought if there is something aftermarket I would upgrade.
I went from a manual to electric inline fuel pump (universal from Auto Zone) and it works wonderfully. Never had a problem with it and it wasn't expensive. Might try that until you get the one you really want.

I try my best to stick with Ford OEM stuff on my stock vehicles anyway..
But I am in the same boat and need to replace my fuel pump and a Ford OEM for my 1992 is 450 dollars and they said I need a 37 dollar jumper wire, for what I do not know but that is outrageous.
What brand did you end up going with? like? dislikes?

Rockauto has a good selection. I might be going with the 47 dollar version that requires the existing parts to be reused and only the pump is replaced.
im not sure when they stopped using them, but elder efi trucks had a low pressure in the tank and a high pressure on the frame. if yours is an in tank high pressure pump, i would look into a pump for a mustang, if not there are a couple of aftermarket efi pump for the frame, but they are not cheap, 250 and up and you would still need to figure out how to adapt it in.

1989 was the last year for dual stage pumps on these trucks. I have looked and have not found an aftermarket pump that fits inside the resovoir on these trucks, the high volume mustang pumps are all longer and don't fit.
The pump itself can be purchased online pretty cheap($50) and swapped into your existing FDM...
Or you can also buy a complete FDM($80) and simply swap the hard lines over..

Hey Conanski... my pump just died on me yesterday (after eleven years of faithful service, almost doubling the time of the original one). If i intend to switch the pump myself what am i getting into? what will i need to do it? Any pointers and recomendations?.
I know i'll have to take down the tank, how many bolts or nuts are there? where are they in general (haven't inspected yet)?.
