Post Upper and lower ball joint replacement

I have a 03 ranger edge 4X4 with the torsion bar front suspension. I am looking to replace the upper and lower ball joints. According to my Haynes book I have to remove the lower control arm to replace the ball joint. My question is has anyone tried to use a ball joint press to get the new ball joint in, or do you have to remove the whole control arm? Any other suggestions or comments on this procedure would be appreciated.

You can replace the lower ball joint with a ball joint press without removing the control arm. I've done hundreds.

Is there a procedure to do this? Is the one in the sticky post adequate? If the lower is replaced should you also replace the upper? And I assume the press tool is essential?.....how much is it, ie, if I do not have the tool, is it best I just go to my mechanic for this work? Is an alignment necessary after the ball joint replacement?

Thanks, Pat
