WIX HP air filters

Beechkid you said the "WIX HP filters flow 98+ % of K&N . . .".
I looked on the WIX site, can not find a HP air filter listed. Called Customer Service, and Tech Service - they are unaware of any "HP" air filters in the WIX line.
Since I'd been considering a K&N for my truck, '04 F250 SD, 5.4, FX4, I am particularly interested in this, saves me $$$ and gets the equivalent performance. The WIX # for their standard air filter for my truck is 46418, WIX indicates a CFM of 500 for this filter, if this is the HP fine if not I'd like to find the # for the HP air filter.
Thanks
HL

They may not call them the HP series anymore- but it is the same type of filter used in NASCAR. This is the link to the test done by Ford muscle magazine a few years ago, but the 500 cfm is more than enough for the 5.4.- based upon 330 cid & 5500 max rpm, at 90% volumetric efficiency (which is race car level), the max cfm is 473- (fyi- I looked at the filter in my truck for a part number but there was none marked on it). While these tests are for round filters, panels do flow less because they have less surface area, butthe swirl post filter effect plays a significant part in all this flow data and unless the engine requires greater cfm...a different filter will make no difference.

Thanks for the prompt reply.
I'll have to give the WIX a try. I often wondered how K&N gained so much over dry type filters of the same basic size and constuction.

Price. It's cheaper to clean and reoil them than to buy new paper filters every time. Between concern over oil getting where it doesn't belong and pure laziness, I prefer the paper filters (they aren't that expensive). Besides, I still have nightmares of cleaning the old oil bath filters (givin' my age away).

Is it REALLY cheaper?

https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/9...ml#post8897772

Most 2009-10 owners have spent $25-40K on their truck. A Motorcraft FA1883 Air Filter costs around $13.

Air filters are supposed to be changed every 30,000 miles (per the maintenance guide, assuming the normal maintenance schedule).

If you drive 15,000/year (average) and keep your truck for 10 years, you will spend a grand total of $65 (or between .26% and .16% of the price of the truck) for air filters.

However, K&N does offer these advantages:
High Air Flow with Excellent Filtration
Designed to Increase Horsepower and Acceleration
Washable and Reusable
Will NOT Void Vehicle Warranty
Lasts up to 50,000 miles before cleaning is required depending on driving conditions
K&N Million Mile Limited Warranty®
Emissions Legal in all 50 US States.
Economical, a K&N Air Filter Will Last the Life of Your Automobile, Motorcycle, or ATV
Works with Original Equipment Manufacturer Vehicle Electronics
Easy High Performance Add-on

Our automotive OE (original equipment) replacement air filters generally add 1-4 horsepower.
A lot of exaggerated claims are made in the marketplace by products claiming to improve gas mileage. K&N makes no general fuel economy claims, however we encourage you to try our air filter for yourself. Keeping air filter restriction as low as possible can be an important tool, among others, for maintaining high mileage.
Purchased direct from K&N, the filter lists for $49.99.

Unless I'm missing something, it's just not worth it.

Hmmmmm- might you be a K&N employee of have some type of financial interest? Most of what you have stated (regarding performance) has been dis-proved through numerous 3rd party tests- showing that several of the "advantages" are at best marginal for oem/EFI relatively stock engines. With regards to voiding the warranty...take a look at flatrate.com Ford factory ASM training vids - specifically on warranty claim & air filter oil issues! don't even bother trying to say- it's the owner who over-oiled it! While I'm sure that has happen, I personally whatched Ford techs install K&N filters (3 infact) right out of the box in our at the time new 1997 Cougar Sport- within 30 days the intake was contaminated with oi 7 Ford replaced the unit each time! i still have the docs!

Re-read the post, especially the first and last lines.

It's funny seeing these "back & forths" about paper vs K&N, especially since the OP is over 3 years old and asked about warranty issues

"Good judgement comes from experience. Experience comes from bad judgement." - Colin Powell to new batch of 2LTs (while serving as V Corps Commander) Cute, but he stole it from Rita Mae Brown

It's funny (at least to me) that's the only thing I remember from his presentation.

He may have acknowledged as her saying/quote when he spoke to us and I just don't remember. I was 23, green as hell, and even more confused!
