considering the service dept's lack of commitment when it comes to covering it under warranty, I personally wouldn't let them touch it. you can see from these posts that its common in all these engines and I'd hate to see you get raped by a dealer just looking for some income. if there was a gasket issue you would have water show up on the dipstick, oil in the coolant, possible compression loss on 1 or more cylinders. an engine could exhibit any one or all of these symptoms when dealing with a head gasket issue.

just dropped my truck off for same issue, scared of head gasket or cracked head. they pressure checked coolant cylinders as a precaution. but said it was just condensation most likely. I had just completed a long run from jersey to NC within a couple days (1200 round trip), but my normal drive is about 5 miles each way, so its barely getting warm. I will be keeping an eye onit, but the more i think about it, i believe the condensation theory with the weird filler neck, just never seen it before. 25,000 here.

Heads on the 5.4 3v don't ususally crack. They are aluminum. The only thing would be warpage from overheating which then would require maybe some milling and a new haed gasket.

Don't worry about it mine does the same thing, I get a lot of short in town trips nothing to worry about my coolant level hasn't moved since day 1.

yea ... seems to be fine. the more that i look back, the fact that the oil on the dipstick was fine and that the coolant level never moved, i shoulda figure it out myself. Also, i got like 20 mpg going back and forth that trip, i would think it wouldnt be that good if something was wrong. Love the truck ... so i got a lil sceered i guess.

4,000 on mine and same thing. Never gets up to temp, and ambient temp outside was below zero for two weeks and drove it less than 5 miles at a time. NOt an issue unless you loosing coolant, and having a oil milkshake on the dipstick.
