What is this truck?

Just saw a truck I really liked in a lot the other day and was interested if anyone can name it. I will e-mail the image to anyone who thinks they can help. I will go back to the lot and get the vin number someday but it is in another town and I would like to check it out online.

The ford symbol on the side of the truck has the number 55 under it. so I assume it's 1955? it looks like about a 3 tonner. Whenever I search for " '55 ford truck" in google it gives me small 1 tonners so I was wondering how I can find more info on this truck. It has a wooden flat bed. 4 tyres on the rear axle.

Let me know if you would like the picture.

Apparently I can't e-mail anyone until I have been a member for 15 days so I finally worked out how to upload it to a website so I can post the pic to the forum...

I p/m'd you with my email address. The truck is either a 1938 or 1939 one ton or larger. There's no ref for 55 anywhere. Some of these rigs had V8 85 (HP) on the hood sides.

PALEEZE...reduce the size of the picture!

where is this exactly. that has to be one of my favorite styles of ford trucks. it is a 38-39 ford. id be guessing its a two ton or bigger as it as normal big truck tires and stuff on it.

Interesting array of old iron. Truck to the left of the Ford looks to be a Diamond T. In the background, a mid 70's F350, unknown cab, IHC and a Dodge Job Rated one ton. On the Ford hood side emblem it'll say "85" which refers to HP.

Hmmm...right hand drive...must be "Down Under." Too far to go have a look-see.

The truck was photographed in Dalby which is west of Brisbane. Many other trucks there but this was the pick of the bunch in my opinion. There were a few junk dealers side by side on the edge of town so it was nice to have a heap of stuff to look at in one place.

I realise that it's hard to tell from a photo but what is a rough reasonable price to offer someone for a truck like that. There was no engine... I'd be putting a new one in for a 'daily driver' I think.

Do people in Aust know anything about getting them registered?.. can it be registered as a daily driver?

Value is in the eye of the beholder, and the location of the truck. I don't think anyone but some of your Aussie Mates into old trucks could hazard a guess, the value here on the "top side of the world" could be wildly different.
I don't even know how to convert dollars into wallabys or fosters or whatever your currency is called... (jk)

Welcome to the forum anyhow, even if you do sit on the wrong side of the truck.

It would be a 1.5 ton, unless it was refitted with a two speed rear axle. Ford got tired of sitting on the sidelines letting the aftermarket convert its trucks to 2 tons, so they offered a two speed sometime in the 40s. It would be called a Regular, since it is not a cab-over.

According to my "Standard Catalog of Light-Duty Ford Trucks 1905-2002" by John Gunnell, this is a 1938 Model 82Y/81Y Platform/Stake. The engine options were V-8/60hp, or a V-8/85hp. The factory price was $735-$745 depending on the engine.
