mirror conversion? 82 to 92-96 style
I have an 82 f250 that has the chrome swing lock type mirrors on it. Both are badly damaged and need to be replaced. I am considering replacing them with the newer style power mirrors. I'm wondering if anyone has modified their door in a way to fit the newer style. it looks like all i would have to do is drill a few holes and run the wiring. Has anyone done this, or do you know if it's even feasable to do? Thanks for any help in advance!

I have seen it done before, even on an older 79 F-150. It wouldn't be too hard, you just need the 2 screw mounting holes, and then there is a square bar that runs from inside the mirror to the inside of the door, so you will need a larger hole to pass that through. You would also need to run your wiring etc. and mount the switch somewhere.

Well since the 1980 to 1986 had their own style Electric mirrors, I would say it could be done easily.
All you would need is the factory Electric mirror wiring harness, switch and mirrors.
For 1980-1986 electric mirrors...
The power feed for the mirrors is a Red Wire and hooks up to the power distribution wire that is Black/Light Green Hash, on the back of the fuse panel that also feeds fuses, F-10 Radio, F-11 accessory feed, and F-17 Power Windows.
The Red wire that goes to the Electric mirror switch is protected by a 5 amp Inline fuse.
-----------
For 1987-1991 Not Applicable...
-----------
For 1992-1996 Power Mirrors.
The power feed for the Power mirrors is Lt Green/Yellow stripe wire that also feeds the door courtesy light switches, underhood lamp, Radio memory, glove box light etc... So you can splice into the Lt. Green/Yellow wire at the door jamb switch if you wanted.
It would be best if you could find the 1980-1986 electric mirror setup, but I have never seen the option first hand. Only in factory liturature or the wiring diagrams... The option is extremely rare.
Second best thing would be the 1992-1996 setup,...
Both look real easy to attempt.
hope this helps...
