03 ranger fx4 level II T-case question ?
Does anyone know what transfer case the 03 fx4 II ranger has. I'm looking into swapping my 04 electric shift t-case, for an 03 fx4 manual t-case. I need to know what t-case the fx4 had, so I know what to look for. Also, does anyone know if you have to swap out the whole t-case, or are there some parts that could be swapped into my current case that will allow for the manual shift lever. I believe thier the same case, just that one is manual and one is electric and I was wondering if you could get away with just swapping out the shaft that the shift motor attaches to for the manual shaft, I hope this isn't to confusing, "thanks".

Wendell, our Rangers use the Borg-Warner 1354 T-case. Same t-case wheather electric or manual shift, just different mechanism for engagement. I've not heard good things about the manual shift versions though but I'm not a big fan of my elec. one either. I miss my manual t-case on my 97 F350 and my new to me 2000 F350 has an elec. engagement with PVH.

If it's the BW 1354, then it's the same case my 96 had and I had no problems with it and it was manual. I was able to trace this case back as far as 89 in rangers. So I don't see why The 02 and 03 would be more problematic than the 89 - 97. Thank for the info, now I know what to look for, I also discovered that the 02 - 03 BW 1354 has a different part number than the early manual version. I found a place where I can get a remanufactured 03 manual BW 1354 for 800 bucks. I'm old school and this dial crap isn't working for me, thanks again "buddy".

No problem wendell. Like I said, I have "heard" that the newer manual T-cases were a little problematic with sticking, shifting hard, popping out of gear but thats just what I have been told and have no experience. Good luck with the switch. Let me know how it goes and I may do the same cuz I hate the little electric dial.

I have heard that myself, but not buying now that I know how long this t-case has been in use. To simplify things, I'm going to look for one from an 02 or 03 level II as they carry a different part number than the early versions, probobly sensor hooks up or something. The t-case will be the biggest expense, once thats out of the way, I'll get the rest from ford. I love the look of the chrome t-case shifter and the fancy ****, also the leather boots with the aluminum ring. I allready have the level II tranny shifter, **** and boot in my ranger now. I may check into just swapping the shaft in my t-case to except the manual shifter, maybe the cheaper route. I'll do my research and start gathering parts, will be awhile before I actually do it, but will keep you posted when and if it happens. Thanks again for your help bud.
