next F150

When will ford update the 150? Maybe more hp or different motor. I feel the 5.4 needs more power, or they need a larger engine.

2009 is the last I have heard for a update on it. Not sure about a different gas motor but there is very strong talk of a diesel in her.

August 2008 as a 2009MY. New 6.2L gas, a diesel (4.4L or 3.6L not sure which yet) and the new 6 speed trans. About all I can say right now.

A 6spd would definently be nice. Or maybe a smaller power stroke diesel engine for those of us who cant afford the new 08's $50,000+

They can not make the diesel right in the SuperDuty what makes anyone think it will work right in the F150? If you want a diesel buy a Dodge with a Cummins. I had a 6.0L in an F250 quite the piece of junk, 4 recalls / "customer satisfaction" issues in less than 1 year of ownership. Thing almost left me stranded in the middle of December do to the EGR, which is a HUGE problem with them. They should have kept the 7.3. One of the big issues with the 6.0 was Ford had to put there fingers into it and do the electronics.

If you think the mileage will be better, think again. I never saw better than 15 with my 6.0, and get 14 with my 5.4 with the same driving conditions. So when you calcuate the higher price of diesel fuel to gas, it cost you more. Plus you pay $5K more for the diesel (not including an auto trans), then you have much higher service cost.

If you need the diesel go for the heavy duty Dodge.

Triple8,

I own a 6.0 diesel and it has been flawless. I also have many friends that have them and no problems either. Sure, there were a bunch of issues and many lost confidence with the 03s and some 04s but the 05s, 06s and 07 have been VERY strong. I have faith that Ford learned their lesson and the 6.4 will be very strong as well, with a lot less problems. If they didn't then this conversation is worthless as they won't be around. Also, from what I understand the next diesel for the F150 comes from Land Rover and they have many years of experience with diesels...

I think Ford will have a few winners.

Fish

As far as mileage, that depends on how you drive. I average about 18 in my truck - F350 Crew Cab 4x4 3.73 LS. I drive around 75 on the hiway and I do hammer it every once in a while. I've get even better when I drive like I have an egg under the pedal. But... that isn't why I bought it.

I wouldn't touch a 6.0L before '05, and didn't. Got an '05 and had to have the turbo replaced and a bank of injectors, other than that it has been good and gets 17mpg empty, terrible mpg when towing though. They had to go with the 6.0L for emissions reasons. From what I know the 4.5L is just a baby 6.0L, I think it is just missing 2 cylinders IIRC.

Anybody remember what they were saying the hurricane (6.2L) was going to put out? 400hp comes to mind, the 7 lug wheels on the spy shots of the '09 drivetrain also tells me they are upping the power quite a bit. When the next biggest V8 is now putting out 340 or 350 Ford is lacking big time with only 300hp out of the 5.4L.

Also is the hurricane a modular based engine? It has been a while since I read up on it.

From what I've read the Hurricane is an OHV engine. I also read in Truck Trend that Ford is scrapping the Hurricane for the trucks in favor of the Diesel. Does any one have more info. I would seriously consider getting rid of my 06' w/ 5.4 if the 6.2 is available.

That would be great. But knowing Ford they will mess up something.

7 lugs is just plain stupid. Is th cost reduction that great to do 7 over 8? Make it 8 and the same pattern as all other 8 lugs to reduce cost of custom wheels. Knowing Ford the wheels will be 6" wide so you can not put a tire on it that has a width that is proportioned to the vehicle. Even the current 275's on my truck are too narrow, yes on the 7.5" wheel.

Hey triple8 what r u talkin about the powerstroke diesel is the best diesel out there, my uncle has one its a 04 and it runs like the day he bought it, tons of freaking power. If your saying buy a dodge ur not a real ford person.
