summit camshafts any good??

While I have one of my heads of my 85 460 to remove a broken exhaust manifold bolt, I was thinking I should replace the intake with a performer manifold and install one of summit cam and lifter packages, I use my truck for towing about a 9K pound load, I have a c6 and 4.10 gears
the 2 cams from summit are
http://store.summitracing.com/partde...1&autoview=sku
and
http://store.summitracing.com/partde...0&autoview=sku
I will only be using the truck about 3-4 times a year, so I don't want to spend much on it.
will I see much of a improvment with the performer over the stock intake? and what about the cams?

I would use the second cam listed for towing. More low end torque.
You may see a little gain from the Performer. The 50lb or so weight savings will help too

I do not recall which after market intake it was but I have read several times the 460 factory intake is a very good intake and hard to beat for stock applications. Other than the weight which was pointed out.

I bought a Summit cam and lifters years ago for a 460 and I did not like the lifters. The small area that is turned down on the lifter where the oil hole is was really turned down. This bothered me because it has to be full of oil. I don't recall ever having a problem with the cam and lifters.

alot of the store brand cam/lifters are farmed out to the cheapest manufacturer whith low quality dont be suprized if the lobes will get wiped out soon and or the lifters will be junk.stick with a name brand cam/lifter.well even just about anything that go's in an engine should be name brand

I would look at the Lunati #61600 I think this is a good low end torque cam.

Summit racing parts are very very good parts. I put there parts in my cars and don't lose any sleep over it. I have their rebuild kits in both my ford 460 and my chevy 350. They have a lot of miles on them and still work great.

I have the 61601 cam(voodoo series). Has good idle and pulls real well. Also have the performer intake and a holley 600. Had a Holley 770 truck Avenger, but the 600 pulls harder.
