LESSON LEARNED. A note on class A diesels with Atwood jacks
For whatever reason, they don't work right if the controller has less than 13 volts coming to it. This means the leveling jack system WILL misbehave if the coaches engine is not running.
The clear indication of this problem is a "LOW VOLTAGE" warning on the leveling jack control panel. The solution is to start the engine, ensure that the parking brake is engaged, on some coaches the drivers seat must be all the way forward, and make sure it is in neutral or park.
Press and hold either the retract all or auto button, until the jack system has run for a few seconds, it should handle all the rest by itself after that.
On extend - the jacks will contact the ground, and you will feel the jacks looking for what THEY think is level for a few seconds. There should be a "WAIT" light on the panel. Once level has been achieved, the wait light goes out and you should have a "JACKS EXTENDED" indication.
On retract, hit and hold the "ALL RETRACT" until they are coming up. When it is done, same as above. But you will hopefully not have a "JACKS EXTENDED' warning.
Be alert to gravel and debris in the cups at the jack ends - it can sometimes stop the jacks from completely rising.
