Audio question

Hi guys,

I originally posted in the A/V forum but I think it is dead.

I am installing a new stereo system in my 07 crew cab. About the only thing I have left to figure out is where to rout the power wire for my amp. The battery terminal is cool as it has a place to hook up. But where do you get back into the cab at? It looks like a clean way to do it is follow the hot wire from the battery all the way around to near the brake booster but where can you get thru the firewall into the cab? Surely you don't have to drill a new hole do you? The amp is going under the rear passenger seat.

Thanks for the help. I appreciate it.

There are some wires near your brake master cylinder. They appear to be cut off. They go through the firewall. They are there so you can add accesories without having to poke holes in your firewall. You'll find the other end in the passenger compartment.

Are those big enough to run power to your amp?

Depending on your amp size you'll need 8 ga minimum wire, possibly 4 or if it's truly large, 2. You'll probably have to drill a seperate hole. Seal it when you're done and insulate it very well so the wire doesn't chafe.

The amp is relatively small but still needs a 10 gauge wire. I have already used 3 of those 4 wires for other things hooked up to the upfitter switches. Thanks for the response though.

There has to be a rubber plug somewhere. There are some at the rear of the cab and I can run the 10 gauge wire outside the cab to the back. I was just hoping for an easy way to penetrate the fire wall instead.

If this an automatic there is a plastic plug for the clutch cable. It may be covered by insulation on the inside but I think that it is cut out, you just need to pull it out.

Not sure about on an 07 but in my 02 I run it over the driver side fender and down underneath the truck back to about where the drivers seat is, and there was a rubber plug i came up through and was big enough to fit my 4 gauge wire and then ran it over underneath the carpet towards the door like 2 inches and then underneath that trim peice to the back and came up in the back corner. Put my amp underneath the back seat as well. Hope this is somewhat usefull.

You can use 2 or even three of the existing wires. Two 20 gauge wires equals 1 10 gauge wire.

Thanks for the help guys. I do have an automatic and will look for the clutch cable grommet. If not, I will just run it outside to the back of the cab and use one of the rubber plugs.

I ran my amp wire along the frame rail to just under the rear seat. I drilled a hole in the floor and then installed a rubber gromet. DId the same on my 99 too.

WRONG.

20ga is 0.032" diameter, 1,021.5 circular mils nominal, 10ga. is about 0.103" diameter and a touch over 10K circular mils. Two 20ga. wires are nowhere near equal to one 10ga. wire.

There is a plug cap found up under the drivers side firewall (get under your dash and look for it from inside). It covers a silver dollar sized opening into the engine compartment. Post #9 shows what to look for..... https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/8...dio-build.html

Thanks for the idea but I resolved the problem already.

It's been so long I don't even remember how I did it!
