Reverse Lights Come On With Headlights

2002 F250 SD CC LWB 4X4 5.4 Auto

The truck's reverse lights come on when the headlights are on. I can't figure out how the two are connected?

Any ideas?

Thanks, Jim

Backup Lights

Try putting the truck in reverse, and see if the tail lights come on. Maybe your backup and tail light bulbs & sockets got mixed up. Has anyone removed your tail lamps recently ???

Nope, no one has messed with any of that wiring.

I can't see where the headlight wiring and the reverse light wiring have anything to do with each other.

Maybe something is screwed-up at or around the fuse panel.

I'm stumped.

I think they are turning on so that you can see the Duramax and Cummins when you blow past them.

Has anyone added trailer wiring, camper wiring or done any electrical work recently?

Has any work been done on your truck?

My son has done some aux lighting wiring over the past few months. I know, that's immediately what I thought of, too

But all the lights he added ..... 2 drivers and 2 fogs on a front push bar, and 2 rear facing floods on the BackRack behind the cab, came in nice self contained kits right from KCHilites. Each kit had the light assy, nice harness with relay, and a toggle switch. Power comes directly from the battery. No splices into any existing wiring at all.

He did jerry-rig a hot wire for a CB into the fuse panel, using the wipers fuse. But I can find no damage or anything with that.

We feel sure that this headlight/reverse light situation had just begun lately, where the light and CB wiring is months old.

I'm going to take a close look at the fuse panel for some kind of damage he could have done? A short some place? The harnesses that plug into the back of the fuse panel? I don't know.

Could the GEM module be the cause?

Sounds like you may have a bad ground to the tail lights. If the back up lights are a little dimmer than normal when they come on with the head lights it is a ground back feeding through the back up lights check the ground for the tail lights.

I am a tech at a ford dealership on Long Island and just Zane across this issue this afternoon. The problem was caused by the parking light circuit wire (blue and white) and the reverse lights circuit (green and brown) being melted together at splice S405, where Ford factory harness was heated to melt the heat shrink. This splice is located just. To the drivers side of center at the rear of the bed, just above the back of the spare tire, the harness runs across the bed going left to right. The splice is where the one wire splits to feed each individual tail light.

hope this helps if anyone is still dealing with this

Fred need some help

Fred,
My local Ford dealer is having issues with finding my wiring problems with my F350. Reverse lights would stay on and now I am having issues with the trailer wiring circuit. And since they don't like me giving them fixes from forums, how can I contact you directly so you can talk to a Ford Technician here in Texas. I moved here from Poughkeepsie a few years ago. Thanks
