roller rockers
i'd been kicking myself, trying to decide between the 1.7 chebby rockers and the roller rockers designed for the 300. I finally found the aftermarket 1.7 roller rockers designed for the cheb. if the 300 can take roller rockers, or it can be modded with the 1.7's, is there any reason that it couldn't take the 1.7 roller rockers? seems like a win win situation to me... but then again...
any input?
edit:
I also meant to add that they make a 1.75 ratio rocker for the cheb, would this fit, or would there be issues with valve to piston clearance? i have not had the head or the block decked. if i had it decked would i run into problems?

I would take Any Day of the Week a Product Specifically Designed for my 300 I-6, as Oppossed to something designed for a Brand X engine that has to be Modded in order for it to work. If it fit right into place, no worries, but from what I've come across, Not.
Crane Gold Race Roller Rockers, worth every bit of Rhino spent on them.

oh, i'd love it if someone came out with a nice roller rocker for the 300 with a nice improved ratio, say 1.65-1.75, but from what i hear, everyone has had good luck with the cheb rockers bolting right up. any advice from anyone that has the 1.7's already? i figured that'd save me the hassle of switching cams right now as well... I'm with you though Col. I'd love to see more aftermarket support for the 300, afterall, how many 300's were made over the years?

My Crane Gold Race Roller rockers did bolt right into place.
And I do not See how the Brand X Rockers can just "Bolt-right-up"?
The last I looked a v-8 has 4 & 4, which Means a "Set of Rockers" would have to be Modded in order for them to fit.

actually the rockers i was looking at were for the chebby 250, their inline 6, check crower PN 73628-12 for the ford 1.6 rollers, and crower PN 73629-12 for the 1.75 rollers. they are identical as far as i can tell except for the ratio. the longer ratio, with the slotted pushrod holes should give me more lift and duration, the advantages of a performance cam switch without that hassle. i'm not trying to argue, i'd just like to know exactly how much fabricating those who have used the chebby rockers had to do, if any. i'm going to give crower a call tomorrow and check with them, i hope...

Just going to a higher ratio isn't worth it IMO. I've done it and don't regret it, but it didn't cost me anything. If I had to pay for the parts I would have been fairly disappointed knowing that I only got 2 hp at the peak and 5-6 at the point of max gain.
What year is your truck? If it's EFI you can get a set of rollers for a Ford 3.8 V6 from Harland Sharp in 1.7 or 1.8 ratios. The 1.8's might be a little tight in the pushrod holes. Actually, 1.7's are a little tight. The 1.8's might hit the sides of the holes.

Check the FSP forum FAQ's and you will find your info on using the Chevy I6 rockers.
