Rear Differential Oil? for My Sport Trac

I had a buddy that had his rear end go out in his explorer with 170,000 miles on it. So I figured I would check the fluid level in my ride before that happens (if that's what caused it anyway).

I find that my level is down between 1 and 2 inches from where the plug is in the rear diff on my Explorer.

I was wanting just to add a little to make sure it's up to snuff and carry on. So I'm confused on what weight to use. 80-90 or 75-140? The manual says 'Shur trac' which I would guess is limited slip or such. But none of my controls in the cab indidcate traction control etc?

My Hanyes doesnt help me nor does the owner manual. It just gives you the fluid type depending on the type of differential.

Does anyone know what kind of fluid I should and\or advice on keeping the fluid good for high miles?

Thanks

75 w 140 synthetic is the good stuff. best to change it all out, but you could add a quart and get by. i would but a smal tube (7 oz) of the friction modifier and add, just in case you have limit slip clutch inside.
