Really, it depends on what you plan to do with the truck, present and near future. Either way you get one heck of a truck! Enjoy the journey!
Do I understand this correct in that an 08 F450 has a tighter turning radius than a 08 F350.
Also how does the ride compare to the 03 F350.
Sorry for all the questions, I am really a GM guy, and not real familiar with fords line. A friend did have a 03 Dually though, so that will give me something familiar to compare to.
PS: I am dentist who drives about 30min each way to work, all highway. This will be a daily driver, used to pull a 44' powerboat around the country.
Thanks.

I was at a dealer Monday in Oregon and he said the 4:33 won't be available until Spring. So I guess the 4:88 is the only one available now.

Is anyone else thinking of getting an over under behind the transmission? The salesman told me that it would not void the warranty. Of course he is the salesman.

If I've read Ford's information correctly for the new series, and that is an 'if', the F-450 has a shorter turning radius than its sibilings. A tighter turning rig would be mighty nice!

the sales guy is incorrect - i ordered my 4:30 gears and it is not a problem and yes, f450 will turn tighter because of the wide front axle

Fords 08 Brochure Says The F450 With 6 Speed Manual, Or On F450 Automatic With 4.88 Rear Axle IS Governed At 325 HP/600 Ft Torque.

Turning Diameter Is better on the 2 wheel drives only

I have been looking into the gear vendor unit.
http://www.gearvendors.com/

I got this email quote from the sales man of gearvendor:

"We do have a unit for your new F450. The unit will bolt directly to your transfer case, you will simply shorten the driveshaft and not other modifications are required. This will lower your engine rpm by 22% on the highway (around 600rpm). 4.30 gears would become 3.35's, 4.88's become 3.80's. The Gear Vendors unit will cost $2995."

The new F-450 and F-550 share the same "Dana Super 60" front end. They have beefer axle and is wider than our regular Dana 60 on the front. Since the Dana Super 60 is wider, the tires have more clearance and can turn sharper.

Which rear end are you or did you choose?

Does it also drop the gear ratio? (More power?) Would the 4.30 become 4.88? Or does it only go the other way.

The device basically adds another overdrive or the ability to split your gears. It is not an under drive unit. I was looking at getting the 4:30's thus my final drive gear would be 3:30's ruffly.
