my uncle has a 1999 f150 5.4 when you decelerate and try to accelerate again you have to mash pedal 1/4 to1/3 before it will do anything at all then it jerks and takes off. it does this with cruise also only when let completly off gas.cruise does this when the road has lots of hills . dealer has checked every thing they say!! every thing is in parameters one tec. said they could not change anything untill it shows to be bad. they wont fix!!problem is worse in overdrive.i have 89 f150 that sounds like it quits when holding back and have driven others that do this but accel. fine with no lag. any help would be app. would a chip help? or anew comput.be in order ?? thanks Lloyd

It sounds like you are getting the tranny to downshift when you mash down on it. What happens when you just give it a little gas? Does the engine speed up some without the vehicle speeding up? Does the engine not speed up?

You emailed me that the engine just stops or dies and does not rev up untill you push the throttle at least 1/4 down. I would ditto Copter Doc and check the TPS...
