I just got my '51 F3 home and the 239 will run but it needs a lot of tuneup help. Looking through the catalogs they list F1/F2 then F3 separate for stuff like plug wires, fuel line from tank to pump, stuff like that. I need both those items and more, I am pretty sure there wouldn't be a difference but with my luck there is and I'll order the wrong stuff. I also need new belts, would someone like NAPA happen to carry them?

 

I'd see what parts NAPA has first. If you take the Ford part numbers that will help them get the right part.
The Fuel line may be different, but thats the onlt thing that should be any different. The 239 is a 239.

 

Yeah I just searched their site and they list F1-F3 as the same for the plug wires and belts. The picture in LMC shows the fuel line just like on my '48 I6, it goes to the front P. side, on my '51 V8 the pump is on the rear D. side. I think I'll probably just buy some tubing and make my own for a lot cheaper.

 

I've been on the computers at the NAPA Store (several hours), you can put in almost any part number as far back a Model A's and it will show cross ref numbers. It will also show cross use, i.e. a Model A Fan belt will fit a 54 Dodge, 56 Rambler, ^2 Studebaker. (Made that up)
They may not carry the part but they can get a bunch if info on them.
Ana they do carry alot of the Flathead stuff.

 

I wonder, did frame length change from f2 to f3? I haven't really seen any f3s to know, but did any of them have pickup beds or anything? If not, that would explain why the different part numbers for things like brake lines, fuel lines, and wiring (except stuff strictly limited to the engine compartment) I guess I'm just thinking out loud. By the way, need any help w/finding part numbers or do you pretty well have that under control?

 

I have seen some F3's on ebay with beds, mine has a flatbed. I have everything I need so far, got the new plug wires on and am going to pull the tank hopefully this weekend.

 

F-2'/F-3's both had an 8 1/2 ft bed version, I believe the main diff were in the springs, maybe brakes. Both used the same Frame (Longer than the F-1).

Over the years part numbers have changed, as newer models were developed the # superceded the older one. Say the front outer wheel bearing for a 48 F-1 was the same as the 56 F-100, the parts store may only list the 56 # but when you look on the computer or in their book it will say "Fits 1948 - 1956 F-1 - F-100.".

 

While on the subject did Ford move the oil filter on the F3's and/or the 51's? It has been too cold to crawl under the truck lately but I do not see the canister on top that should have the filter in it so it is either underneath or non existent.

 

It should be on the left head, rear. If someone installed an aftermarket screw on filter they are usuall low on the left side.
Some just removed the cannister and plugged the lines.

 

The oil filter was actually an option on the flatheads. Some never had it.

 

The fuel line diameter is diffrent from the 6 to 8 cyl models. The v8 is 3/8 I think. its the next size bigger than the 6 cyl from the tank to the pump. I think that was to help with vaper lock.

 

Napa can cross reference about any part number. I get everything practically from the napa store. I ususally need the part number first though.
