new baby has a superchip but no programmer !!!!
I just purchased a 2002 f250 7.3l diesel from a dealer. I got the address of the previous owner and he stated that a week after he bought the truck he took it to travaleer and had a superchip installed. He cannot find the programmer and does not know how the truck was programmed, He said it may of had a couple of settings but he does not know. How do you not know??????These things you keep up with. I want a dp-tuner. can i add the dp-tuner with this superchips thing in my truck. what a bout the superchips. is there any way i can find out how this thing is programmed? Thanks guys

Hi Ortho,
You might already have the answer but not realize it - the previous owner told you he had a Superchip installed - that is NOT a flash-type tuner, but instead it's a "traditional" type of performance chip, and it attaches to the back of the PCM, connecting to it's J3 port.
The PCM is located to the left of the steering column down low, and may (or may not) have a black plastic cover on the back of it - remove that black cover, and if the Superchip is in fact installed, you will see it, it will be a gold-colored module physically attached to the back of the PCM.
Now if there is no Superchip attached there, then it has no Superchip, and I seriously doubt if the previous owner would have left the tuning from a Superchips hand held tuning device (a flasher instead of a chip) in that truck, he would have returned it back to stock and sold it, or used it on his next 7.3 PSD himself. Meaning, if a Superchip is not physically attached to the back of the PCM, chances are that PCM is bone-stock, so you can use a tuning device.
If you would like to go over your options in this regard, get details on how to tell if you have a Superchip installed, etc,., just give us a call at our number listed below & we'll be happy to help.
Good luck!

Thanks for the reply. The previous owner stated that he gave "the box" to one of his buddies and could not get it back. Don't you have to return the truck to the stock setting to use the programmer on a different truck? My truck shifts pretty firm like it has a superchips installed. I installed a superchips on my dodge and it shifted the same. Never owned a diesel truck and really don;t know how quick or how much power they should have but I am impressed with this 7.3.I will check the back of the pcm and see if it has a gold chip on it.
on another note, I want this truck to last forever. I pull a 8000lb camper and a 20 foot boat. Do I really need a chip? I do like to put my foot in it sometimes. I just ordered the 6637 filter from napa. Just to open it up a bit. Lets just see what this does. keep in touch
