(WINTERISING) Lesson Learned - city water connection
While it is true that water can hide behind the check valve in the exterior hose connection for city water - I have this advice for you....
If YOU REALLY WANT to pop the valve behind the wire mesh screen in the hose connection MAKE SURE there is no pressure in the system at all.
If the system is pressurized and you pop it - you will have ruined the seal that the valve makes. And that connection will have to be replaced - it can't be reliably repaired.
If water freezes in that area, it will cause the seal to expand. When it thaws, the seals will come together normally, and nothing is damaged.
My advice is to leave it completely alone....
(IE: Don't worry about it. I had to buy one for a customer today, after following ANOTHER customers suggestion) I know now what will happen.
