My dad just purchased an f600 powered by a 330 industrial engine. Since the original motorcraft carb runs kind of ratty, we were thinking about swapping to a four barrel intake and carb. However, I have heard that the intakes from the FE motors are not interchangeable. Is this true? Also what carb would be about the right size for this motor?
Definitely a port mismatch with the FE intakes - you'd need an FT intake. 4bbls did exist on the 359/361/389/391 FT's
But I'm not sure the exhaust crossover and intake ports would match up with the 330 heads. I remember something about the exhaust gaskets being different between the 330 and the larger FT's, but I might be mis-remembering.
The best thing for you to do? Get a Holley 500 2bbl - which might be kinda big, actually...
Thanks for clearing that up guys. I'll probably check wrecking yards for a 361-391 4V intake; and if I can't find one, I'll get the Holley carb. As for replacing the engine, it runs pretty strong to be thinking of that.
The exhaust cross over passage is centered in the FT heads and intake. Not offset to one side like an FE. Just replace the carb with either a 350 or 500 cfm Holley 2 bbl. 330 doesn't need a big carb.
