Hi everyone,

Just purchased a pretty nice, low milage, '95 XLT 4X4 for my son's high school graduation present. Although giving it to him is still a ways away there are a few things I need to take care of.

As this one is an XLT it has that stainless (brushed aluminum?) panel on the tailgate but it's one of the few things on the truck that isn't in great shape so I'd like to replace it. Does anyone know if it's still available from the dealer or is it now an aftermarket/reproduction piece? Also, how is it attached; special clips or glue? If clips, is a special tool needed to get them to let go of it?

One headlight has moisture in it - must be a crack somewhere in the lense. Common replacement item available most anywhere?

Finally, it has the electrically adjusted "sport" mirrors on it but the drivers side mirror is cracked - top to bottom, right down the center. Both halves are still in place though. Any tips on how to replace?

I assume the truck is a style side box? If so, then the tailgate trim is attached using 6 torque type bolts in the center and 4 acorn nuts (2 on each end). Being as the truck is a '95....the dealer will say they don't carry anything over 10 years old. You can find them on ebay....I have seen quite a few the last day or so. I'm not saying a dealer somewhere doesn't have one.....but it may be tough to find and even expensive. Same goes for the headlight and mirror. These parts can be found on ebay also. I am a stickler for OEM parts...these can be hard to find on ebay. As for aftermarket....I don't have any experience with them, so maybe someone else can shed some light on that subject. Good luck.

Tailgate My have it at dealer but dought it. I replaced one in 99 it was $$$ glaod I wasn't payin. Ebay, wreckers,are good place to look . Held in place from inside bed by 8torx and 4 nuts on sides. Be carfull taking torx out work back forth. They are pricey to. If you live in PA I have on thats not bent up but small scratches.
The head light get moisture in them I have had new ones that do it. There are aftermarket ones resonable if you can't find used same for mirror. Check ebay or local yellow pages of autobody supply house ,wreckers ,(have aftermarket)or ask body shop where might get one. Ebay has oem style for around 30.00 and mirror is about same .

 

Thanks Sam. Yes, it's a style side. Pretty much as I thought regarding where to find the tailgate trim panel, as well as the other parts so I'll have to spend some time on eBay and maybe even check the dealer. Would probably be easier if I were able to find the part number for that trim panel first.

Since this truck has only just over 30K miles I do want to use OEM where ever I can.

LMC Truck has the tailgate panel on page 26 in the 80-96 Ford catalog. You can view it online at their site. My ’95 has the panel and logo that they show for 87-91 trucks so I would make sure before you order. They have mirrors on page 75 but I don’t see the glass by itself. Mine is broken in the same place as yours. Headlight Assemblies are on page 131. The parts you want are pricey, so I would scour the salvage yards first.

Remove the headlight and seal the seam between the reflector and the lens with clear silicon sealant--and replace headlight. The sealant isnt visible when reinstalled. I did this to my headlight three years ago--no moisture at all now.

 

last time i looked one of the panels up they were still available, 92-96 the 91 older isnt, but there are 300+ last i remember, and you guys that keep sayiNG dealers dont have older parts or being told so FIND NEW DEALERSHIPS! check out the parts thread to read comments on this

 

the tailgate finish panel is f2tz.99425a34.a msrp is $405.88 the rh headlamp is f2tz.13008.a MSRP IS 118..26 the three clips to mount said headlamp e9dz.13n129.a $4.82 each . all parts are still available!

Phone's tip on the silicone around the housing is a tried and tested route. I've known several people who have had the same problem and it worked like a charm every time. If you ever get to a point in time where the actual lenses get yellowed or chalky looking, here's another tip. Wetsand the lenses with some 1500 grit wet/dry sandpaper, then use a medium grit compound ( on a buffer preferably, it saves time ) or on a slightly damp rag and rub it out real well. After that, put a nice light coat of wax and voila, you have nice clear, good as new headlight lenses. And btw,, the ss396 is one sweeeet ride.
