Question New 6.0 owner with coolant leak??

I just got a 2003 6.0 that has a coolant leak coming from the firewall area. It will leak until the overflow bottle is empty. The leak will change sides with the slightest lean. My driveway has a slight sideways grade to it. When facing forward, with the lean to the driver side, the leak is on the driver side. If I back it in, vice versa. I've noticed a coolant hose running from the overflow bottle that runs across the firewall, but I can't see where it goes. Could this be the leak? Is there a common leak on the 6.0's? I already miss my 7.3. Any ideas or gueses at all??

You might try asking some of the guys in the 7.3 forum, they always seem to have something to say about the 6.0.

There is a TSB about coolant leak around overflow bottle. Go to top of this page to recall/tsb go to full text tsb. go to the proper year and model. Then look for your problem.

Thanks bigred. I know some just can't resist being sarcastic, but you pointed me in the right direction. I have verified no coolant in oil and no oil in coolant. Once it gets about 1 to 1.5 gallons low, the leak stops. It seems to me it's a line/hose type problem. It leaks when I fill the bottle even when I haven't started the engine yet. This is my first 6.0, and will take me a bit to get to know it.

I would get a small mirror and check the back side of the bottle/hoses for the leak.

Ryan,
I wasn't being sarcastic. I didn't say anything bad or negative about the 6.0, but after having 3 7.3's, I know them. That's what I miss about my 7.3. I know nothing about this one. It would be different had I bit the bullet and bought another new truck like the last 3, but not knowing the 6.0 and having issues with it with the warranty expired worries me. I tried to find a used 7.3, but not many around. So far I am pleased with the 6.0. Runs smoother, quieter, much more power and better MPG than my 7.3's, but not knowing how to fix things is a pain. I was past the learning curve on the 7.3's, but just starting on this one. I like to know what I own and drive, and that isn't the case here. Now I find myself having to rely on others for help, and that's not my nature.

MRXLH what is your problem? everytime some one talks about the 7.3 you run your mouth and say rude comments. I would miss my 7.3 to if I got a new 6.0 and it was leaking coolant and my 7.3 never did. Im currently looking at a 2007 F250 6 speed with a 6.0 all I have to do is the sign the papers and trade my 02 F250 7.3 in but really I dont think I want to being as most of you 6.0 guys seem pretty rude. NOT ALL OF YOU BUT MRXLH YOU ARE!!

Your right, its because I am entitled to for the abuse and negative comments given by a major portion of the 7.3 owners on this forum.

Yeah, most of us 6.0 owners are aware by now that the 7.3 never had any problems whatsoever. We get reminded of this on a daily basis here.

Well I have been called worse by better. Don't worry, I'm ok with it. If you don't have any thicker skin than this, the 6.0 is definatly not the truck or the forum for you. If your not mechanicly inclined and do not like to work on your truck, by all means DO NOT BY IT. Get another 7.3. That is the best and most sound advice I can give you.

Let me ask you a question though on a parting note, just exactly how do you think we became so rude? Possibly due to the fact that people like you respond when your opinion was not asked for. Was I a little hard on enduring? probably, he'll get helped though, we'll se to that, but when you make comments about the 7.3 which we have heard at ends length for 3 years now, expect a less than an open arm welcome.

Well Lets see I am a mechanic by trade and have more then enough knowledge to work on either a 7.3 or a 6.0 liter ford power stroke diesel engine. Second off I have never once ever said I disliked a 6.0 or commented how much more great the proven 7.3 is I know that you are a jackass from the post comments that you had wrote in the 7.3 liter forum. You have nothing good to say to anyone who owns a 7.3 reguardless of who they are. And my opinion not asked for. When ever in this post have you given any advice to the problem at hand? all you did was say a smart *** uneeded comment to go to the 7.3 liter forum to ask for help. I personally looked at this post because Im trying to determine some common problems with the 6.0 that I will need to look out for if I decide to purchase the truck. Why would I go buy another 7.3? when I have a perfectly good 7.3? I am considering the new 6.0 for the extended warranty most of all. To have that new truck interior smell to get a 6 speed trans to have better out of the box performance and hopefully some better fuel milage. I was never talking down to you I WAS ASKING WHAT IS YOUR PROBLEM ITS GUYS LIKE YOU WHO MAKE THE 6.0 FORUM UNPLEASANT thats my opinion and opinions are like Admin note: see our guidelines about language everyones got one.
