Cruise Control calibration

I posted this once a while back and did not get any replies. Does anybody out there know if the cruise control module can be calibrated ?? I have an '05 PSD with cruise and torkshift trans. The cruise wanders from above setting to 'way below setting. It about drives me nuts. Transmission shifts all the time trying to keep up with wander. When cruising speed is "set" the vehicle speed drops about 6-8 mph before anything happens, then all at once the cruise wakes-up and accelerates hard causing the shifting and of course the engine revving up, ruining any hopes for good mileage per gallon.

Any help here.
Thanks

this is one of the most annoying things about these trucks. I have owned three of them and all the cruse controls are that way.

thats odd.my cruise is very tight and accurate.the only time there is a delay is when you push resume it takes several seconds to start to resume.all in all works great.there must be some calibration I suppose.Good luck!

I haven't had it drift more that a few MPH and it doesn't hammer the accelerator hard unless I hit a big hill.

I will say I sympathize with you, on my F-350 4WD the cruise is not accurate either. It won't pick up when you initially hit it, and reduce speed and resume is not exact either. I guess I am used to my 99 F-150 where it was on the money; one click on reduce speed was exactly 1 mph and increase was exactly 1 mph.

It's worse when towing. I can drive it all day with my foot and all seems well. but I didn't have to buy a foot for cruise.

Ok, now I understand. Mine unloaded, cruise works great. Towing it don't work very well at all. After noticing this, I had the wife pull out the owners manual, and she read to me that it states to not tow with cruise. I just chalked it up to Ford not wanting extra strain on the converter, and having it programmed to not work well while towing. I will say that if towing less than 5000# it works pretty well. Towing my 11k# toyhauler is where it "drifts" really bad.

My cruise is right on the money. Like stated earlier, when hitting resume there is a lag before it kicks in but then brings it up and holds right on. Even towing, 6000-7000 pound, set it for 65 and it held uphill, down flat it did not seem to matter. Don't know of any calibration or adjust though.

Is this cruise setup driven with a cable? If so, check that the cable is tight and moves freely. It could be that the cable is sticking so when the computer first tries to hit the go-pedal it doesn't move. Then as it applies more and more pressure, the cable slips and causes a large amount of acceleration.

Sounds like something mechanical is sticking.

If it's fly-by-wire like the 3-valve gassers, I'm at a loss

It's a fly by wire. You need to change the programming in the PCM to change how the cruise works.

Well there is a calibration of the go pedal and the stepper motor that opens the throttle body.gasser's not sure on oiler's
If you have a delay or hesitation on take off you may also have the cruise problem
