Exclamation I got a 93 7.3 IDI non Turbo... Power & Fuel Question

I got a 93 F350 Non Turbo Crew Cab Dually with 160,000 original miles. I wanted to ask the experts what can I do to improve my power without having to spend a lot of cash buying a Turbo Kit. Also with the new Diesel fuel out should I always use some kind of fuel additive? Any advice yall?????

I also put new glow plugs in last fall. I still get that white smoke at start up and when its warming up. Is there a way to loose the white smoke. Or do I have to spend the cash and put a new IP pump or Injectors?

Your cheapest and esiest option is to turn up the fuel, get a cold air intake, and get a free flowing exhaust and possibly headers. Don't give up on the turbo yet though I got mine w/ all the pipes for $450.

1.0 A turbo is by far your best bet.

2.0 Always use a good fuel Additive (Diesel Kleen, Howes, FTP, Diesel Tone, etc...) with the new ULSD diesel fuels

3.0 Your IP and injectors may just be dirty and need a good fuel additive treament for a few month to get back to normal. If that does not fix the white smoke you can always replace the IP and Injectors. Cost to by is only $700 to $800 these days. Not bad at all. I replaced my IP in my 91' F350. No big deal.

Seb....

Is the best place to look for Cold air intake for my truck and the exhaust. Like I said I'm might keep it or I might sell it.

Any good muffler shop can fabricate a 2.5" dual or 3" single or dual exhaust for a reasonable amount. Shop around locally for that one.

As far as air intake mods, that is something you will have to do.
I have never seen anything for on the IDI diesel engine that could be considered an improvement in the air intake department.

Several people in here have done mods to the intake ducting.
Each one is different, but they are all trying to get more air into the engine.

Thats what I figured I had to do my own air induct to my truck. I will probaly tackle that some time this winter. Since I have it stored. The other think is, I do restore cars and have rebuilt engines and all that good stuff. But me and Diesels are that close. WHere would I get info on bumping up my fuel on my pump. Or how do I begin to do that. Is there some where that I can get some information to do this. More that likely if I can get my truck to kick a little more juice I might keep it a little longer. YOu know no car payment is nice. PLus I just painted my truck a Crystal white the the Caddi Escalades. I work for a paint company so all my stuff is free. IM not done I got some orange pearl stipes that im going to panit sometime this spring. Pays to work for a research and development paint company.

maremont part # M30001 is a mandrel bent 3" tailpipe to fit '66-'96 Fseries. It exits at a 45* angle behind the rear pass side tire and costs less tha $50. They can be tricky to find but they are out there and are still being made.

before you do many add on or changes have the pump timing checked. My diesel started fine but it produced a lot off white smoke on start up until I advanced the timing an extra 4 degrees over book.

Ill have to check that on my timming. First thing is first I am going to get better cooler air into the intake. Next step is going to be Bigger Exhaust. Then pyrometer and then the turning up of my IP . You all have been great help. I will have to post pix of my truck. Fresh paint on her and getting ready to put some Carizzma RM Orange stripes on the side with some PF18 glass in the paint. SHe will pop.
