Headers on 1972 Ranchero 500 with 400 2V heads
I want to install headers on my ranchero but can't seem to fine any that will fit on a 1972 ranchero 400 with the 2V heads! Hooker has them listed with the foot notes that they will only fit on the 4V heads and won't fit on C6.
Any one with a 1972 running headers?

Keep shopping and don't always believe the restrictions. I would suggest calling and talking to someone (at PAW or Summit) as quite often they can point out the ones you need. About 22 years ago I put headers in my 400 1973 Ranchero, and they supposedly required a power steering linkage. When we installed them, the factory linkage was fine. Don't get too hung up on the year - 1972 through 1979 SHOULD all be the same. I actually went through two sets - I believe one was Blackjack and the other may have been Hooker or Thrush.
Note that you cannot use 4V headers as the ports will not match, and though the ports on 351C 2V headers match, they would sit 1" too high in the chassis due to the 400 raised deck - and would likely collide with something. Good luck and be sure to report back. I may yet swap out the 1972 351CJ in my latest 1973 Ranchero for a 400...

am i reading this right? do they make headers for a '72 ranchero with a 400 with 4v heads? because if they do, those are EXACTLY what i need! do you have a part no.?
the only headers i've seen for 400's are for the 2v heads, so the headers i bought are for 351C 4v. (1972-74 351C 6203HKR) my ranchero is a '75, but any headers that fit a '74 should work fine. my main concern is the 400 deck height moving the ports higher than a 351 block, but i guess i'll deal with that when i get to it. hopefully they have a little extra clearance when used on a 351...
these hooker super comps should fit yours:
1973-79 351-400M 6125HKR (regular) 6125-1HKR (coated)
1-3/4x31 primaries, 3x10 collectors
Fits 2V heads only, will not fit column shift standard transmission.
again, the year is a bit off - it doesn't matter.
it's interesting to note that ranchero is listed under both "car" and "truck"... the notes for the 6125's are the same either way, except the "2v only" note is missing under truck. the 6203's say "will work with C6 trans. under "car" and "will not work with C6 trans." under "truck"...
i am DEEPLY disturbed that they don't make side-mount headers (side-pipes) for the ranchero.
