460 stock HP and Torque?
#2
My 1978 Mercury Marquis has a 460 4bbl.
Stock with single exhaust it had a whopping 197 hp. I think I recall 358 ft-lbs, but I'm not as sure on that one.
My engine is an "A" in the VIN code.
With dual exhaust they jumped to about 220 hp.
I think the Police Interceptors, which had a different VIN code, had duals & a hotter cam and were around 240 hp.
But, take a late '70s 460, put duals on it, scrap the cats, and give it an Edelbrock Performer carb/intake combo and you'd have a nice animal.
Oh, I don't think passenger cars ever had a 460 2 bbl. 429 2 bbl maybe. Not sure about trucks... mines a 460 efi!

I think it's still worth dropping into the stepside, but I'd say that about any 460!
