Hmmmm............this thread kinda died on the vine.

 

I'll fan the flames a bit...check out Toyota's two page ad spread on their "Triple Tech Trapizoidal" (say that fast three times!) Tundra frame on pages 124/125 in the June issue of Motor Trend.


The headline of the ad says: "The Biggest Advancements in Frame Construction Since Bolts.

 

I see more of the new Tundras all the time. They must be selling pretty good. I'd buy one. The new Tundra impressed me more than any 07 model 1/2 ton truck I've driven.

 

I just think it odd that when Toy got the 4 stars for the one test that people were all over the inferior Toy frame.

Now that it faired well in this test...................are those crickets chirping???


[I do agree the ads are kinda silly, but so are the ridiculous Ford ads claiming you need two trucks to tow what a Ford tows....and the ad shows a supercab!!!]

 

I agree on the ads being silly. It doesn't matter which brand on the ads. All of them have some dumb ads. If more of the crickets would drive a new Tundra they would find out that its a good truck. Toyota did a good job with the 07 Tundra. Its strong running & has great brakes too. I was impressed with the one I drove. I've never owned a Japanese car or truck. This may change when I buy my next truck

 

Oh just wait, those crickets will chirp about unfair testing and whatever excuses one can come up. You sound surprised?

What? You mean the latest 3 year old version of the F-150 "suddenly" tows more than 2 trucks ( which both simularly equiped have more hp and tq than the Ford ) and it took them this long to tell everyone?

Still hoping Ford at least offers comprable/optional brakes and powertrains to compete in '09.

 

You speak the truth and it's actually quite funny. At least twice now Ford has upped the max tow ratings in response to a competitors' new release.

When they upped it to 10,500 to counter the GM trucks, I'm not sure if there were any changes. But the 11K tow rating that came out in response to the Tundra is only available on a specifically optioned truck the average consumer does not purchase.

[and don't forget the F-150 is 4 model years old!!]

 

It'll be 5+ before the next generation appears.

2008 Super Duty commercials running on TV now tout the new heavy frame it has. Commercial doesn't state what kind of frame it is.

 

GREAT point.........Another "confusing" ad is when Ford makes a HUGE deal about the outboard mounted shocks on the 150, yet the Super Duty still uses the "old" technology inboard mounts.

My poor old Super Duty is the weakest of the weak:

No boxed frame like the F-150

No boxed front section like the current Super Duties.

No outboard mounted shocks.

It depends where you are... here you get outboard & inboard shocks on Sooper Dooties.

 

Really??? Outside the leaf springs???

 

They are a must have where you are. Once you hit the outback, the roads are only fit for roos, wombats, and an occasional kookabura. Something like the Mohave desert, only less forgiving.

 

Negative; Kookabura sits in the old gum tree.......


I'm not doubting Fredrick, but I'm surprised that the "wimpy" 'Murican versions wouldn't at least have the empty mounts for the quad setup.
