Power steering on a 49 F-1

I have a 49 F-1 with the original steering box and straight axel with a ECI disc brake kit. I want to add power steering to my system. I do plan on replacing the steering colum.

There are 3 systems being sold for these trucks. One is an add-on cylinder like the 60 vintage Fords. Another is the Saginaw steering box with the steering converted to "cross steering". Among others, Mullins Steering Gear sells this conversion. The third is the early 80's Toyota 4x4 box mounted in the original location. Classic Truck Shop (www.classictruckshop.com) has a good description of this. I am in the process of converting mine and could not get the Saginaw box to clear the exhaust from a sb Chevy. I am now in the process of installing the Toyota box. Generally a pump for the engine being used will work with the box.
