Wife was just driving home when it blew out on her 02 Expy. The other two I replaced , one was towing horse trailer and the other was driving down the interstate.

Nope. Warm engine, just about to pull out of a parking lot onto the road and "kapop" went the number 6 plug.

Just had #6 blow out taking what few threads it had with it. Pissed me off. I've owned about 200 different cars and trucks in my life and this is the only time I've had issues with a spark plug stripping itself out of a head. Now to check on all the rest...
just asking what about 98 4.6 win got it with 250000 on it did a tune up and all most all the plugs leak by and the #1 helcoil came out with it just un did it and put it on the new plugs and tork it in plan on puting a new motor in soon
A question that came to my mind is: Does where the motor type have anything to do with blow outs? IIRC, some 5.4Ls are Windsor and some are Romeo. I'm entirely sure if that's pertaining to the block, build, or plant that the motor was assembled in, BUT I think it might not be a bad idea to ask member's to list that if they can. Again, I'm not sure if it has anything to do with it, but I have a classic 66 Mustang and guys in this areas often mention that 351C (Cleavland) motors had oiling issues while the 351W (Windsor) were OK - or something like that. Just a thought...
Just happened to my wife's van a few days ago. 187K miles. Less than 20K on new plugs. Thank goodness I have a close friend that's a mechanic and he had us back on the road in 2 hours (after putting in 8 hours in a shop)!
Wife say's if this van leaves her on the side of the road again, it's getting tossed and she wants a new E-series. Sorry honey, as long as they have aluminum heads, it may happen.
The '99 is a short-thread head. Any modular after around 2003 model-year is going to be just fine.
One question, you say 187K miles, with less than 20K on new plugs. Does that mean they were never done until 167K miles?
