4x4 is what it says
off road gave you skid plates on 01 to 02
fx4 gave you plastic skid plates different stickers and junk shocks.

Then again, all F-350 OEM shocks are junk.

I would never buy a truck with an electronic transfer case. Way too many things to go wrong. My truck is a 4x4 pkge and it has manual hubs and t case, More or less failproof.

I believe the off road and fx4 packages also came with slightly more aggressive tires and a standard limited slip rear end. The FX4 package is also the "new" off road package for the trucks from 03 to present which includes Rancho shocks. The shocks aren't the best rancho shocks but are better than the factory ones.

Same tires, if you wanted at A/T is was something like $175.
L/S was not included with the offroad or fx4 pkgs.

sorry to tell you but thats not true. it don't matter if you got a motor or a lever they still fail. Our shop has rebuilt more superduty t-cases than any other.

The skidplates on the 01 and 02 4x4 off-road package aren't plastic, they are steel. FX4 skidplates were plastic. The 4x4 off-road package also came with a steering stabilizer which I believe was an option on the regular 4x4.

TJ,
I didnt mean to say that the TC itself is better, but that the activation method is failproof

that is true. as long as the lever gets used every now and then. The OBS truck here in michigan have some issues with the pivot corroding stuck.

Ya can't buy the perfect 4X4. But ya can get close than Fordify it. And ya got what ya want. I can't imagine anyone buying the new trucks. Without planing on Fordifying it. Now a new Expo for the family car? Ya I would do that.

FX4 was an option in 02.

My truck came with the "Off-Road" package, I took the decals off and put FX4 on.
Looks like I got the best of both worlds
