Pulling HPOP res right now...help, mayday mayday!
lol guys I need help! I stripped the threads on the sender atop the Resevoir. At first I thought I could pull the top off the HPOP res (it was dark last night), but now I see thats a welded seam...I started pulling bolts out and noticed they are real long and go all the way down past the res. So I need to know if I can pull the res without draining it, or if I have to drain it.....if so, how?
I need to get it out and empty so I can fix the sender hole and clean any shavings out that Im going to get in there while doing so.
I just dont want to pull all the bolts out, and lift it out to find out there is no bottom to it and have all the oil dump all over the front of my engine, theres already enough oil on my engine from the sender coming out. At least its all shiny.

I have never pulled mine but did empty it to repair the IPR. I used a vacuum pump with a collection bottle on it, like you use to bleed your brakes. Many have used a turkey baster with a piece of hose attached (but don't let Lovely Wife see unless you are going to replace it before Thanksgiving!!).

thanks I dont have anyhing like that but good to know if it turns out theres no bottom to the res. I still have to get it out so I can flush it, I need to re-drill and tap the hole to get an adapter threaded in...or something. Havent got that far yet tho.
Im going to look for something I can drain the oil with while I wait to find out.

Have you tryed a helicoil to repair the threads?
To drain your HPOP reservoir try one of these: (I have used both) check with your local feed & seed store, ask for the largest syringe that they have. You don't need the needles. Then go to you auto parts store and get some rubber tubing that will fit on the syringe. Use this to pull out the oil.
Or go to your auto parts store and get a bulb siphon with 1/4 inch hose and use this.

I dont know wtf a helicoil is, my bud has some he said will work....does the installation of one require drilling and/or tapping?
I found an el-cheapo syphon pump in a roadside safety kit my gf got me for xmas last year...im working on pumping the oil out but I have to heat it up so its thinner, -20c here and I have no shop...brrrrr!

Theres enough oil everywhere from when the sender came popping out, and the trucks been down since thursday so I have a million other jobs to get done that are adding up.

ahh I got it done last night, I tapped it on the engine. Put some grease on the tap, cut 360* of thread, removed tap, wiped grease and put on new grease, repeated many times untill I was all the way down. I wouldve JB'd the plug into the sender hole but I wasnt sure how strong it would be...
