Bluegrass, I'm not car illiterate. I do understand that you are not criticizing me personally, however, I have had bad experiences with Bosch plugs. That was one experience. I had others that didn't come to light until after my most recent experience with the rebuild. Originally I wanted to do a valve job only on the truck cause the number 2 cyl and number 5 cyl intake valves had cracked, but I ended up just replacing the whole engine. Every person I've talked to, with perhaps an exception of two or three that have experience with cars, have said "Don't use Bosch plugs." I didn't notice any significant difference when I used them either. They stated that they would improve HP, MPG and over all clean running. They didn't. At one point I wanted to remove them because I felt that they were making my vehicle run worse. Before you make another comment about whether I made sure the "heat range" was right, yes it was and the gap was set to standard for that engine and the plugs specs.

Bob, I change both plugs and wires around 70,000 miles. I have let them run as much as 100,000 before changing them. To me, changing "minor" stuff like that not only helps maintain fuel milage, but it helps with overall engine proformance. I must be doing something right, because like I said, I put 270,000 miles on my truck before i had to do any major work on it. Now on the other side of that note, I grew up working in my dad's shop with and for him. I did my first engine rebuild when I was 14 years old, with his watchful eye looking on of course. It was a 289 out of a 1968 Ford Fairlane 500 that I eventually bought as my first car. So I have been around the car world for quite some time.

And to answer you Blue Oval: yes, I swam out into the Loc myself and made that monster give me those plugs. Nasty critter he was. I had to bash him a few times before he would listen. But when I pulled my plasma gun on him, he gave me those plugs willingly.
