rookie question regarding engine choices
In 1953, the 2 main engine choices were the 215 inline six overhead valve engine, and the 239 flathead v-8. In 1954, the 223 inline six was introduced, and the Y blocks were first used.I believe there was a 239 y block originally. Eventually the 272 replaced it by 1956. Hope this helps you out.

rookie question regarding engine choices
Yeah, that's what I wanted to know. Thanks! One more question though - I saw a nice one about 5 miles from me that looks good and solid. Is the engine bay in these trucks big enough to handle a 460? If not, I assume an FE won't fit either (but I know assumptions are very rarely a good idea). What is a good engine choice for these trucks for large amounts of power? I'd love a 500+ hp 460, but I don't want to have to bang out those gorgeous fatfenders to fit it in there. I'll be using sanderson headers, if this makes a difference.
