Letting my inner fool shine

A couple months ago, me and my family moved into a new house that has a garage, which allowed me to pursue restoring and otherwise tinkering with an old Ford truck. And a few weeks ago, I bought one- an F100 Custom Explorer.

Up until a couple of days ago, there was too much stuff in the garage (because of the move) to actually put the truck into it. So I cleaned it out and whatnot. The truck has a rack on it, and so I measured the truck's height to see whether I would need to take off the rack so it could fit. Just on a whim, I measured the length of the truck, and it's too long for the garage. Jesus Harold Christ. Truck: 19ft, garage: 18ft.

So. Just thought I'd share. It's a double garage, but it won't fit even catty-corner. I suppose the only thing I can do is sell it and find a shortbed, which should fit just fine.

Measure twice, buy once. Or something.

Would it fit sideways? You can get those wheel dollies to move your truck. Get a couple of guys turn it and then push it into your garage. That may work.

Nah, it's 18 feet wide, too. I made some drawings to scale, and it won't fit at any angle...

Damn, that sucks. I'm worried about my garage door with my truck. I am restoring a 77 F250 4x4 so it has that factory lift on it and I plan on only putting 35s on for tires. My garage door is one of those 7 feet doors I think. My 05 F150 fits oK, so I hope my old truck does to. Right now, my old truck sits at my parents so no worries yet. When I get the cab on, I'll have to take measurements.

I guess you could either build on to your garage or go with a shorter truck or bronco. If you have the space, you could just get one of those Tent garages to store your truck. Good Luck on whatever you do. It sucks when storage is a problem. That's why I don't have my truck at my house yet, no room for it. Soon, my 05 F150's lease will be up, so it's going back to the dealer because I want to build my 77. I'll keep my 97 Dakota for my daily driver.

ok forgive me for being doubtful...but is your truck reg cab long bed? if so those trucks have a wheel base of 11.08 ' or 11' 1" I know for a fact that the nose in front and tail behind the wheel base is an additional 6'11" I'd buy it if you had a supercab or crewcab, but i don't think the f100s came in either soooo before you sell i'd remeasure. If it's the rack giving you heck- take it off.

Will do, scottie2hottie. You're right, it doesn't seem possible that a reg cab long bed would be 19ft- but I measured it twice.

Maybe I shouldn't be huffing that bug spray so much.

Yah, you're completely right, I checked the brochure and the overall length is 211.3 inches, which is 17' 7". Should fit.

ah yes which can also be accomplished with a little liquid encouragement. I do most of things I get yelled at for while under the influence

Hillbilly, I feel your pain. Your sad tale reminded me of my first carpentry job. The first board I cut, I cut too short. So I cut it again and it was STILL too short! Good luck.

Nothing wrong with letting your inner fool shine Sometimes I think I have two of considering the number of stupid mistakes I've made fiddling with my truck.

I don't know if this helps or not...probably not, but it really should fit if you take the truck completely apart every time you want to park it in the garage. Not very convenient, but then it should fit if that really is what your goal is....lol.

Gee, what a fun thread this is turning out to be! But,seriously, if the truck is going to be in the garage for a while (you did say "restore"), would it fit if you took off the front and rear bumpers? Just a thought.
