Engine codes

I have a 2000 ford f150 4.2 v6 and my service engine soon light came on. I took it to autozone and the code was 1309 it was a misfire. Does anyone have any idea how to fix this problem or what may cause it. Also my air bag light stays on does anybody have any idea how to fix that. Any help would be much appreciated thank you very much.

If it's a misfire, it should be a P030* code. P0300 being random misfire and going from P0301 all the way up through P0306(for your V6 engine)..... Get it checked again or fix the code and get back to us.......

P means Powertrain
1 means manufacturer specific (0 would be generic)
3 means ignition/misfire problem
0 and
9 are the specific code.

but like wilber said 01-06 indicate the cylinder that is misfiring. not sure what 09 is.

Your v6 has a cam position sensor up front. If it is out of adjustment or faulty a misfire can result. It's not peticular cylinder oriented because it involves all cylinders.
The missfire monitor is picking this up. Since it is not a cylinder at fault, it's reported as a 1309 for the CMP.
This is what happens when the codes are not interpeted correctly.
A Haynes book pages 6-11/12 has enough info to allow servicing.
Good luck on it.

on newer vehicles with crank position sensors there is an option you can do with a scan tool called "crankshaft variation learn" which filters out any variation in the reluctor wheel, because it can cause mysterious misfires. I dont think there is a cam variation learn, its probably a bad sensor or connection between the sensor and the PCM, or Ignition control module, which ever it connects to.
