If you don't mind me asking, what are the new cam specs or did you just order the blanks? How much were they?

I don't know the specs off hand, but I will get them from the performance shop in the morning. They were about $1150 for both cams, then I am doing hyd dampeners, springs, port polish, valve job, headers, and whatever intake work that is necessary.

I got into all of this since the heads have to come off to get the broken exhaust studs out, to cure the exhaust leak.

That "well, while I'm in there" mentality gets expensive, huh? I have the same problem

Anyway, I'd love to hear the results you get with the work. Do you plan on dynoing it before/after?

There must be SOME demand for them, then.

I wonder whose using them? Certainly not enough backyard guys putting them into 1950's F-series trucks to justify blanks

I have a feeling the before dyno would be very weak. I am definately going to do an after with the tuning. I have to see how much they want to do a before.

Around here the dyno shops are pretty cheap, about $60/hr. You could easilly get 2 or even 3 pulls if you wanted in an hour. It's when you get into the tuning that's expensive. If you have one of those stand-alone F.A.S.T. or Accel boxes, the guy doing the typing charges $150/hr.

comp cams is doing a very limited amount of them, pretty much a specail order only item for the blanks then grinding them to a 4.6 ,5.4 spec they have had good results with.

as to the market wakeing up to the v10. i don't think so as it is really very dry for the v10. even more so now that whipple and kenne bell have stoped makeing the super charger kits they had been. and now that the v10 for the green states is a 450/550 only motor. which IMMO means a soon new gas motor coming our way for the 250/350 federal light duty under 1 ton rateing given them.

I cancelled my order with Comp Cams b/c I want to get my exhaust leak fixed already. I had them on order for almost two months and I called today - they don't even have the blanks yet and don't expect them for at least a month.

Now the question is should I do a full reman PI V-10 or just the PI heads?

The shop said they could do a unloaded and a towing tune (which would be close to factory I imagine).

They also offered a E85 tune??

Now THAT is interesting!

In your case, I'd probably just do the heads at this point if the bottom end is OK.

Port and polish, even the stock non-PI heads.

In the 4.6L realm, people have flow-tested PI and non-PI heads, and found that a properly ported non-PI head outflows a un-ported PI head.

What a ported PI head does, I have no idea

And, not sure the non-PI V10 head is the same as a non-PI 4.6L head.

What would I do? Probably do the PI heads, port and polish and be done with it.
