Where to mount Wolverine oil pan heater

I just got my Wolverine oil pan heater today. When I ordered it the tech told me that I should mount it on the side of the oil pan, and the instructions also say that it must be mounted on a flat serface. No curves, indentations or even part numbers are supposed to be under it.

Has anyone else mounted one of these, and where did you put it? As I look at the oil pan it appears as though I could mount it on the side at the rear (deep) part, or in front of that, or on the flat of the shallow portion (forward) of the pan.

Anyone else put one of these on, and where did you mount yours?

I also mounted mine on the bottom of the oil pan. I used model 16 which is 3.75" x 4.25" and 250 watts. I wired mine to the block heater wire and used a Marinco outlet mounted into the bumper, no unsightly cord hanging from the truck.

Thanks for the replies.

I went out and looked at it again and it looks like I can put it on the bottom of the pan with just a bit of one corner curving up, so it looks like that's the plan.

If I'm not mistaken the cost to run a 250 watt oil pan heater for 4 hours is 10 cents. 250 watts x 4 hours =1 kilowatt hr. I think I pay about 10 cents per kilowatt hour. The block heater is about 1000 watts so it should cost about 40 cents for 4 hours. Together they cost 50 cents per night or if used for a month about $15.

I installed my Wolverine model 16 oil pan heater, and I did end up putting it on the bottom of the pan. It would have gone a lot faster if I hadn't been so **** about the whole thing... I started out taping off the outline of the pad so I would only sand off the paint that I needed to and not much more. That as well as the rest of it worked out just fine, until I went to put the silicone bead around it. Yeah, I wasn't thinking and didn't tape that off first, so I ended up with a mess and wiping all that off and starting over. It did end up looking pretty good, but I don't think anyone else other than me is going to see the bottom of the oil pan.

I also wired it into a plug with the block heater so they will both work at the same time off the same extension cord. I'm planning on wiring in a Marinco plug and making a bracket to mount that in the front of the wheel well (I just can't bring myself to drill any holes) onto the end of the studds that some people use to mount the no drill light bars.

Tonight it's supposed to get down near 20, so I'll see how it does when I head out tomorrow morning.
