97 f150 sticks in park
#2
Its a safety feature that most cars/trucks from like 96 and on have...in other words it should be normal, unless you have to push on the brake pedal realllly reallly hard for it to move...then it could be out of adjustment..I believe they call it a Park/Shift interlock.

When my 97 did the same thing I knew it was normal to apply the brake to put it in gear, but I did not know it took several times to apply the brake to get it into gear. So,I got out my Haynes manual and it said the BOO (brake on/off) switch was bad. So,I replaced it.....didn't help. After looking closer I discovered the connection wires to the switch were broke and were only making contact when I applied the brake very hard.Check your wire connections to the switch;it is located up high on the brake pedal, under the dash.

My 97 has the same problem with the wire breaking. I have to fix mine about once a year. The wire goes into the switch at a 90degree angle and i guess applying the brake over time just wears it out. You will need a female push on wire connector for very small wire if this is your problem. good luck
