Hi my name is Timmy and I've aquired a '56 F100 and just trying to figure out what I have.
The VIN tag in the left doorjamb reads as follows

F10V6N29249 5000 110 143 4000

3 3.73 W 20G2078B

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks Timmy

The following is from the Cars & Parts Mag "Catalog of Ford Truck ID Numbers 1946-72"

F10 - F100
V - 272 cid 8 cyl
6 - 1956
N - Norfolk, VA assembly plant
29249 - consecutive unit number

5000 - GVW
110 - Wheelbase
143/4000 - Cert. net HP at RPM

3 - 3 Speed regular tranny
3.73 - rear axle ratio
W - ext paint code (I don't have a listing for W code for '56, but '55 lists it as Tropical Rose on the Courier)
20G2078 - production code (day/month/unit produced) 20 July, #2078
B - likely a special order option

Hi Timmy,
I was suprised to find color codes for the 1956 listed in the book I have called "Catalog of American Light Duty Trucks", but I don't see anything listed for for "W". Heres what they have listed:
A = Raven Black
B = Dark Blue
D = Light Blue
E = Colonial White
G = Light Green
H = Gray
M = Yellow
P = Primer
R = Vermilion
S = Special Finish
U = Meadow Green
I don't know why they skip letters, or why they don't show "W" as a color. This book is not exclusive to only Fords, so maybe it's wrong? Wish I knew, I'd like to help you.
Kenny

Thanks Guys for the info.The org. color seems to be a light blue/green like the old T Bird color "robin egg " is what my wife calls it. Could the "S" special options code be for special finish on the paint code chart Kenny mentioned?
Thanks again
Timmy
