Ford Explorer new radio no sound

Hello I Have a 1996 EXplorer with premium sound(not jbl)I am replacing the factory HU with a Sony CDX-gt20 unit. I am using a scosche oea-4 amp integrator so I can keep the factory amp. I have the sony HU hooked up but get no sound out of the speakers. I believe the amp is not turned on. What do I use to turn amp on ? Do I wire 12v to the blue wire on the grey factory plug? Also the sony does not have an amp on wire. Is the black with white stripe wire from the scosche oea-4 a ground wire? any help would be greatly appreciated Thanks Todd

Not sure Im following you - why are you using the OEA4 interface if you are retaining the factory amp? That interface is used to add an amplifier using the output of the factory amp for signal. Your sony should have at least one set of RCA outputs for adding an amp(s).

And your Sony should have a blue wire used for rem. on/trigger to power up the factory amp.

amp bypass new radio

The crutchfield tech guy said I need this after the HU ;between the amp, because the unit would destroy the speakers. IT does not work. I decided to bypass the amp with the metra 70-5513 plug. Guess what? it does not fit wrong ends!! I am about to put all back to oem and send it all back . The sony HU does not have rca jacks or a amp turn on wire

No RCA or remote wire? Must be an older deck.

As far as the deck destroying the speakers - wrong. The main drawback to using the factory amp is the volume will increase much more rapidly since you are sending a signal thats already amplified. I assume this is why he sold you the OEM4 - to reduce the amplified output of the sony. Its not really needed IMO. In rare cases the factory amp may fail down the road - then you simply have to run the by-pass harness.

If you are having trouble with the harness and installation why not save the headache and spend $45 to get it installed at a specialist retailer? Or at least visit one and have them help you find the right harness - fords are a pain - to many diff. harnesses to contend with.
