I would like to put a 4 bbl carb on my flathead any suggestions as to what I should be looking for. All information will be greatly appreciated.

A 4bbl will be a little much for a stock flathead. Taking a 239cu in out to 276 with a mild cam will run nice with a 390 cfm 4bbl.
I'm not aware of any 4bbl smaller than that.

 

Used to see the twin duces on em in the late 50.s and up. Pop talked about em a lot. Said they really made a 50 merc move. Manifolds and carbs gotta be out there. I realize they are a bear to keep in tune but what else a gear head got to do? Laundry?

 

I forgot to mention that I have a manifold just trying to figure out what carb I need. I'll start looking around to see what's out there. If a 390 cfm is the smallest I can get that I guess that will be what I'll be looking for.

Is it a custom manifold? As in a y block 54+ would have to have a 57+ stock manifold to take that carb I believe. I have ran T pots(56-) and they are a flaming torch or can be. If ya can run the 390 I would put in smallest jets and headers, bigger cam etc. and it may still fall on her face when ya punch it.

 

It's supposed to be an Edmonds but there is some question as to its authenticity. It measures 3 3/4 X 3 7/8 roughly for the carb base. I thought this would be a place to start. The engine has duals and I will be looking for a cam and heads in the future.

If you use the Holley 390, its not a direct bolt up to the Edelbrock Manifold. There's a spacer/adapter that goes in between. Speedway and others sell it.
