Cool Transmission Issues FX4 / 04

Has anyone had a clunk or jerking feeling when letting off the gas then accelerating. This occurs at highway speeds and low speeds. It feels like the limited slip but in a straight line? I already greased the drive shaft, so I am just curious if anyone else has had this problem.

I read it. It was about greasing the drive shaft. I have extended warranty so I probably will bring it in. Thanx

My 04 FX4 does the same thing. Ford will tell you that it's "normal". I don't know anyone with an 04 or 05 that doesn't have this clunk.

my 04 does that and so does my dad's 04 XLT. But I haven't noticed it on the highway, only in local driving mostly on steep hills when left off the gas and then accelerate again. My dad used to have an 01 F150 Screw that did the same thing as well. Seems to be normal?

Sounds like the slip yoke problem. The TSB calls for greasing it, but that only lasts about as long at it takes to get out of the dealer. It also states in the TSB that the splines need to be looked at and any metal shavings requires the entire slip yoke to be replaced.

I had the same issue. The dealership told me there was a TSB about a shim changing the angle of the driveshaft. They installed it and NO MORE CLUNKS!! I was amazed but it worked. Make your dealer look at all the TSB's about the noise, there are a few.

Do you have a long or short bed truck?

I would personally label this noise as a "slam", not just a clunk. If I drive 45-50 then coast down to 25-30, then moderately acellerate the tranny really slams back into the lower gear.

I guess I will try to take it to the dealer and see what they say.

Does anyone have the TSB with regards to this noise?

I cant find the TSB on it but the dealerships have it as they told me about it. Ask them about the shim...it changes the angle 2degrees.they can and should find out for ya. Good luck...
