97 f-150 4.6 ping

Cleaned maf. Didnt help. Replaced maf. Helped a little. Still pinging, mostly in summer, under any load. No codes. snap-on scanner readings look ok. So my question is what is the fuel pressure supposed to be before and after the regulator. Also do they make an adjustible regulator, so i could play with pressures to see if it might help. I know some pinging is normal but mine is irritating. Any info would be great. Thanks Bob.

Hello and Welcome to the site!

I haven't seen an adjustable regulator but that doesn't mean others haven't. Everything else is good on the truck (spark plugs, etc)?

the egr passage may be clogging up even though it hasn't set code yet.At idle manualy open the egr with its own vacuum source-it sould practically kill the engine, if not suspect the egr or carbon blockage in the passage in throttle housing.
unless you have a performance type need for an ajustable fuel reg. don't, the injecters need a certain parameter thats already there with the factory reg.

Try running a higher octane gas and see what happens... Try 91. If it stops, you could have carbon buildup in the cylinder.

Have cleaned all egr ports, throttle body and intake egr valve port. Sucked seafoam in pcv valve and power booster line let set for 20 minutes didn't help, made a nice mosquito repelant though. New plugs and wires didn't help. Ran all different brands of gas and octane didn't help. Have bigger tires but i changed the vss gear in transfer case onlyfixed speedo and little bit of shift points. I do not baby this truck nor abuse it. I would just like to find out what is up with out taking to ford and spending $$$$$ to find out just live with it.
Running out of ideas Bob

I'll bet the knock sensor is bad,and possibly the fuel pump is weak.
I changed the fuel pump on my '98 after fighting a pinging situation for almost a year, and it stopped until the knock sensor failed-now it's back to pinging again under certain load conditions.
