F150 or a F250

Last summer my family purchased a new and larger boat. My current SUV can tow the boat but the suspension really cant handle the weight. I am looking for guideance and suggestions.

The new boat and trailer weigh just about 6000 lbs and the trailer is appx 30 feet in length.

I really want a pick up truck but I dont know if the F150 can handle the boat or should I go with an F250.

Any help is really appreciated.

6000 lbs is quite a bit but a 1/2 should be able to haul it safely if you have trailer brakes. The braking would be my biggest concern, not the suspension.

F150 will haul that fine, get the larger engine tho. I put airbags on mine and haul my 8500lb travel trailer no prob. Also get the Prodigy brake actuator and install it for the trailer brakes, its a sweet unit and works excellent.

I just purchased a Prodigy. Where did you mount yours? Under the dash seems just too far away and hard to see. Mounted on the lower dash panel (below steering wheel level) seems like a good option, but the angle (~63 degrees) is very close to the 70 degree limit of the Prodigy. If this is where you mounted it, have you had any problems?

There is a good spot on the left side of the steering colum down low on the dash above the ebrake that worked out well for me. A nice mounting area on a metal brace there.

So I take that there is no problem there with the operational angle of the unit. Great.

I think if mounted anywhere at the bottom of the panel it shoudl be close to level. First post was thinking this is too far away. I mounted mine right under column on metal braket. Hopefull I will never have to grap the manual ****, lol. It is within reach and not a problem.

It has worked well for me there for 2 1/2 years. I figured the metal piece beside the brake release must have been put there for something.

I'm with ya, after you look at the metal bracket/brace there you will think its a natural. Installed mine in early 2004 and have had no problems. The only thing better is the new integrated brake controller on my F250
The F150 beats it hands down on ride quality tho..

I mounted my brake controller in the slot under the ash tray(no center console). The holder(?) just pops out and i drilled a hole large enough to pass the connector through and used heavy duty velcro so it is removable.
