Loud cabin noise

Hi,

Just got my F350 crew cab diesel 6.0L XL FX4 short bed.

is there a relatively simple way to reduce the noise in the cabin?
there seems to be no padding of any sort between the engine compartment and the cabin.

tnx,
Eysham

None has ever been discussed... but that is a diesel!!!!

Curious... didn't you test drive your truck in the city and highway to test or compare noise levels and if acceptable??? The newer trucks do not come with the hood insulation that older ones (like my '03 does) which reduces noise from under the hood and rattling... but nothing from the firewall or floorboards area.

to be honest... No...
I ordered the 2007 F350 from the 1st shipment that came to Israel.
I oly read about it on the net, and saw it when I was in the US, though never drivven one.

This is the 1st year that the dealer found right to import it.
Most pickups here in israel are smaller. (like my old 2004 Isuzu Dmax)
For new stupid tax regulations, it has become cheaper to buy a fullsize , so both Chev and Ford are newly imported.

Ma-nesh-ma... (not sure of spelling)... that is about it for my Hebrew language skills...

I would drive it and enjoy it and maybe just turn the radio up a little louder or the CD player.

Maybe someone else will have answer for you... it has been a slow day from what I can tell for people visiting and posting on this site.

I did a complete interior removal and applied FATMAT (simular to dynamat) to everything. It's much quieter now. It's sometimes difficult to hear the engine if the windows are closed, and mine's a diesel.

When I upgraded my stereo system - I had the audio shop Dynamat the entire cab of my truck (floor, doors, front, rear and roof). It made an incredible difference!

Getting ready to add the engine mat as well. Every little reduction in dB means one less notch I need to crank up the stereo!

I'm not familiar with the diesels, but my gasser HAS a layer of kind of like wool blanket material with a hard backing between the firewall and the cabin. I would think the engines wouldn't make a difference here. Not sure if this is the type of thing you are talking about, but I am sure that it is cutting down on noise and heat from the engine compartment.

You might ask over on the 48-60 forum. I know it sounds like an odd place to seek a solution for a modern truck but remember, the older trucks had no sound deadening insulation to speak of. When guys hot-rod/modernize the older trucks, sound deadning is often an issue they address, particularly if they are ever intersted in having their wives ride with them.

I know that a lot of the guys have used a spray-on bedliner type material in conjunction with different types of matting (Dynamat being one example) to quiet things down with varying results.

If you do post over there, keep this in mind - while they are all very nice guys, many of them are the biggest cheapskates you wil ever come across and I mean that in a very comlimentary way. Consequently, they come up with some extremely cost effective and easy solutions to problems that on the surface seem somewhat overwhelming or at least daunting. In short, they are ver creative "outside the box" thinkers for the most part.

You may want to do a search on the subject on 48-60 forum first just to see what's there. If you don't find what you are looking for, go ahead and ask - or simpy ask without searching.

I think that you can probably get things quieted down considerably just by adding the hood blanket that was discontinued sometime in 03/04. It's not that expensive.

Good luck with it.

Yes there is a way. Excursion insulation panels under dash to mask engine noise.

Have you tried asking her to be quiet?

The dynamat stuff works very well. I used it on a muscle car I own before I put in a new carpet kit, made a world of difference.

I have had a 99 with the 7.3L, 03 with the 6.0, and now an 07 with the 6.0, and each subsequent truck is significantly quieter in the cab. I think they are doing a lot to keep the noise out of the cab. Welcome to owning a diesel.

In the early '80's I use to laugh when I saw a Mercedes diesel auto thinking how dumb to purchase that expensive of a vehicle to have it that noisey inside. Wrong! Now that I own one, I have realized the noise level is VERY minimal. Mercedes did a great job sealing up the cabin. Granted it is a 5 cylinder and not a V-8, but the sound deadening is fantastic (lots of insulation). Now to get the truck that quiet.

My neighbors love me starting the truck up at 4am to go hunting on weekends and letting it warm up for a few minutes! Of course, that's EXTERIOR noise, not INTERIOR - so what do I care! Yes, I try to creep out of the neighborhood quietly, but heh, we'll never be accused of sneaking up on someone driving a 6.0!!
