50 f1 hood support question??

I started to clean up and ready the hood on my 50 f1 for primer etc. I welded up the torn out holes for the latch bracket mechanism and straightened up some sheet metal and it appears to me that at one time there was a support bracket just back of the latch mechanism that might go all the way accross from the left to the right side of the hood on the bottom side. Maybe someone can confirm this and if so describe it. Thanks Ed ke6bnl

50 f1 hood support question??

Ed- Yes there is supposed to be a support or piece of sheetmetal from side to side on the hoods. The top of it conforms to the shape of the top of the hood. The bottom edge has a notch in it with a lip bend at 90 degrees towards the back of the hood. There is a bracket spot welded to the top of the hood that it bolts to.It is held to the side of the hood with 2 flat head screws. it also has a rubber seal stapled to the top edge. There are 2 sets of holes in the hood and upper bracket depending on if you have a 6 or a 8 cyl. They do show it in the parts books. I have several extra ones if you need one.

50 f1 hood support question??

My support was missing for my Flat 8 truck. I have one from what may be a 6 banger. What's the difference between them? I am planning on painting in the next few weeks and don't want to use the wrong piece.

Thanks.

The support fits the top of the radiator. There should be no difference between the one for the 6 and the 8.

Ed- How about $15.00 plus freight? E-mail me off site at CLUSSY38(No Email Addresses In Posts!), I will need your zip code to figure freight. I have several of them. And yes, they add stability to the hood.

I almost forgot. If you don't know which set of holes to use, I believe the V8 used the back set and the six used the front.

So it's the same part, but just tilts back for the 8? Sounds odd. Any idea why?

Thanks

It does not tilt back. There are two holes in the upper bracket that's spot welded to the hood and 2 sets of holes in the lower edge on each side of the hood.
